Born in Reutlingen, Germany, Keller-Reutlingen was a pupil at the School of Fine Art, Stuttgart before completing his education in Munich. He exhibited widely in Germany showing many Italian views he had seen on tour during the 1870's and early 1880's. This view of Naples is among his finest of the period, depicting the busy waterfront and the famous monastery on the distant hill. In 1892 he won a gold medal in the Glaspalast exhibition and joined the Munich Secession the following year. He is represented in a number of public collections including the museums of Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leipzig and the Pinakothek, Munich.
