A beautiful pair of Empire Paris porcelain and gilt bronze three-light candelabra
Paris, date circa 1825-30
Height 60 cm. each.
Hard paste porcelain was not produced in France until about 1758 and only on a larger scale when it was made by Sevres in 1768. During the late eighteenth century many new porcelain factories appeared in Paris producing hard-paste wares generally in imitation of Sevres. Many of the factories were under the protection of royalty or the privileged few. Because of the number of different factories and often lack of markings it is often impossible to distinguish the names of the different makers. However as we see here Paris porcelain is distinguished by its quality and very attractive decoration.
