Landscape and marine artist, Kuwasseg painted sumptuous views around the world. He was born in Triest, Italy and in 1870 became a French national. He trained as a landscape artist firstly at the drawing academy in Graz and then in Vienna. In 1830 he went to work in Paris and later travelled with Sir Robert Schomburgk across Europe and America before returning to Paris. His work was shown in Paris, where in 1845, 1861 and 1863 he won several medals. King Ludwig Phillip and Baron de Rothschild were among some of many to have purchased his work. The museum of Rouen, the Delgado Museum, New Orleans and the Public Library, New York an own his paintings.
